Last updated: August 15, 2026. This policy explains what information is handled when you use My Rain Guage, how hosting and weather providers process requests, and how advertising may use cookies or similar technologies.

Information you provide

You can use My Rain Guage without creating an account. When you search for a city or ZIP code, the search text is sent to Open-Meteo’s geocoding service so matching U.S. locations can be displayed.

If you choose “Use my location,” your browser asks for permission first. If permission is granted, latitude and longitude coordinates are sent from your browser to the weather service to retrieve the rainfall estimate. My Rain Guage does not operate a user-account database or intentionally store those coordinates in an operator-controlled database.

Weather-service data

Selected coordinates, date ranges, and weather-data requests are sent to Open-Meteo. Open-Meteo may receive ordinary request information such as your IP address, browser information, and request time under its own policies. Review the Open-Meteo terms and privacy information for details.

Hosting, security, and technical data

My Rain Guage is hosted and delivered through Cloudflare. When you request a page or file, Cloudflare and the site operator may process technical information such as your IP address, request time, requested URL, referrer, browser or device information, and security signals. This information may be used to deliver the site, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and understand aggregate traffic. Cloudflare processes this information under its own policies and applicable retention settings.

Browser storage and offline files

The site uses a service worker and browser cache to store copies of site files on your device for faster loading and limited offline access. If you dismiss the optional app-install suggestion, a small preference in local storage remembers that choice for 30 days. You can remove this data through your browser’s site-data or cache controls. The rainfall form does not intentionally save your searched location or selected dates in browser storage.

Advertising and cookies

My Rain Guage may display advertising supplied by Google AdSense. When advertising is active, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers to serve, limit, and measure advertising.

Where required, visitors will be shown a consent message that provides choices about advertising cookies and personal-data use. If you email the site contact, we receive the address you use and the contents of your message. We use that information to respond, maintain business records, protect the site, or comply with legal obligations. Please do not send sensitive personal, financial, medical, or account information by email.

My Rain Guage does not sell the city, ZIP code, coordinates, or date range you use for a rainfall lookup. Hosting, weather, and advertising providers may process request information as described above and retain it according to their own policies or configured retention periods. We may disclose information when legally required or when necessary to protect the site, its operator, and its visitors.

Children’s privacy

My Rain Guage is a general-audience weather utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an account or registration system.
